A region is an area that is connected by a common language, common economic strengths, or the inhabitants' view of their region. There are three types of regions: formal, functional, vernacular.
vernacular regionsA region classified by the view of those who live there, this classification does not take physical boundaries, economic ties, or similar characteristics into consideration.
The Tennessee Valley spreads into parts of Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Virgina, and Tennesses but all the people in those different states identify themselves as living in the Tennessee Valley. |
